National Teen Driver Safety Week
Attorneys Cohn & Swartzon recently offered valuable advice to all teenage drivers, and the parents that allow them to get behind the wheel, on the radio in recognition of National Teen Driver Safety Week—which took place on October 14-20. Since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the leading cause of death for teens between the ages of 15 and 20 is motor vehicle accidents in the United States, they thought that it was important to educate the general public about certain liability laws in California. Most parents do not realize that they can be held liable for the damage that their child causes while out on the road if they give them permission to drive, knowing that they have a history of being involved in traffic accidents or of driving under the influence. For this reason, Cohn & Swartzon thought that it was important to participate in promoting the message of National Teen Driver Safety Week. To listen for yourself, click below.

The Gabriel Nunez Fundraiser
On New Years Day 2011, a heroic seventeen-year-old Orange County boy sustained severe traumatic brain injuries after being hit in a
pedestrian accident. That afternoon, Gabriel and his mother Veronica decided to walk to the local grocery store to purchase popcorn and soda, and to rent a video as many families enjoy doing. As the mother and son left the small rented bedroom they share, they entered a crosswalk on the way to the grocery store. At that moment, Gabriel suddenly observed a car approaching the intersection. Gabriel shouted to his mother, and just as she turned around he pushed her out of the way, saving her from being struck by the oncoming vehicle.
Unfortunately, Gabriel was not so fortunate. The teenage boy was struck violently, slamming his head into the hard asphalt. Subsequently, Gabriel was rushed to the trauma center where he was subjected to eight separate brain surgeries where he nearly lost his life on several occasions.
Gabriel's mother Veronica, an employee of a small local grocery store, stayed by her son's side through each and every operation, unable to afford a car, she endured long bus rides, two hours each way to be by her son's side at the hospital. Unfortunately, due to the mother's economic hardship, she was not unable to manage transporting her son to and from his medical appointments, nor did she have the means to pay for her son's treatment or recovery.
As a family oriented law firm, Gabriel's attorneys took the seriousness of his situation to heart. Due to the nature of his case they organized a fundraiser to benefit the heroic young man who did not deserve the dire circumstances that had afflicted him and his family. On Thursday, August 25th, 2011, attorneys Jason Cohn and Saar Swartzon, of Cohn & Swartzon, P.C. held a fundraiser to help raise funds for Gabriel's recovery. On June 25th, 2011, Gabriel received a rare commendation from the Buena Park Police Department for his heroic actions to save his mother from the oncoming vehicle. Due to the collaborative efforts of his attorneys at Cohn & Swartzon, P.C., they were able to raise over $30,000 from donations and support throughout the community to help him through the aftermath of this tragic accident.
Cohn & Saar Swartzon Attend Launch Party for Doctora Ana Magazine
Attorneys Jason Cohn & Saar Swartzon were honored to attend the launch party for Dr. Ana Nogales's new magazine, Doctora Ana Magazine. Dr. Ana, a psychologist felt that there weren't any real resources on the market that were directed at the advancement of Latina women. Because of this, she decided to come up with an idea for a magazine that was aimed at the "health" of Latina women.
Dr. Nogales asked attorneys Cohn and Swartzon to join her in her quest to help encourage the growth and advancement of Latina women everywhere by contributing articles to her magazine. Jason Cohn and Saar Swartzon were more than happy to contribute articles to Doctora Ana Magazine, knowing that they would help empower women through education. Drawing from their collaborative efforts with Dr. Nogales, they are confident that Latina women can benefit from their advice and contributions to the innovative magazine for Hispanic women.
Mr. Cohn and Mr. Swartzon attended the kickoff party for Dr. Ana Nogales's new Latina magazine. This event celebrated how Dr. Nogales, along with other contributors were pioneers in the advancement of local Hispanic women throughout Orange County, California and nationwide. Cohn & Swartzon take their position in the community very seriously, and they care very much for the local residents of Orange County. They are eager to lend their support where they can, and supporting Doctora Ana Magazine is another example of how they seek to give back to their local community.
